Muslin Weights
NFR - Non-Flame Retardant
Muslin NFR (Non-Flame Retardant) is best suited for making seamless stage backdrops, cycloramas, or surrounds which need to be painted. The lack of a flame retardant chemical allows paint to be applied without running. A flame retardant additive is needed where flame retardancy is required.
FR - Flame Retardant
FR Muslin is best used for covering flats, unpainted backdrops, cycloramas (cycs) or surrounds. Extra-wide lengths are commonly used for creating seamless backdrops. Not recommended for painting due to potential flame retardant leaching.
IFR - Inherently Flame Retardant
IFR Muslin is made from tightly woven, Trevira® or Avora® polyester. It can be sewn into a cyclorama or mounted to a frame. Same appearance as cotton muslin but less stiff so it's an ideal choice for high humidity conditions.
