Muslin Backdrops
Muslin is a tightly woven cotton fabric, most commonly used for creating backdrops on stage. It's often used for covering flats and scenery, and for lighting bounce drops. Muslin can also be painted (some varieties) so it's perfect for creating backdrops that depict a background, scene or sky. Muslin backdrops are a critical feature of any great stage.
Scrims
Sharkstooth Scrim is commonly used to achieve special lighting effects on stage. Sharkstooth Scrim is an open weave material that is used to produce special effects on stage. If Sharkstooth Scrim has a higher concentration of light on the front side, it appears opaque. If Sharkstooth Scrim has a higher concentration of light on the back side it appears translucent. Because of this property, scrims are often used for reveals, or to create mist, fantasy, or dreamlike effects.
Cycloramas
A cyclorama or "cyc" is a large curtain or wall, often concave, and positioned at the back of the stage. Cycs are typically made from canvas (larger versions), muslin (smaller versions), or filled scrim. With the use of lighting, and placement of actors and scenery, a cyclorama takes on the appearance of a sky. They are sometimes painted with decorative elements in support of a particular performance's aesthetic requirements.
